K15,000 SPONSORSHIP TO “SP 20/20 Cricket Match”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SP Brewery was once again the proud sponsor of PNG Cricket, this time for the exciting version of cricket - the ‘SP 20/20 Cricket Match’ scheduled for Saturday 3rd March 2007.

In presenting the cheque of K15,000, SPB Acting General Manager Glenn Muller said that SPB has been a proud supporter of PNG Cricket since 2005 when the national Team competed in the Malaysian and the Ireland Cricket tournaments in their bid to qualify for the World Cup.

“ Last year we decided to concentrate in developing the sport in the country. Our objective now is to develop the sport nationally and create a strong foundation for not only the current representatives but also for upcoming cricketers,” said Mr Muller.

In 2006, SPB supported the main national tournament - the SP Lager Super Series.

“And this year, we are pleased to support the SP 20/20 Cricket Match in conjunction with England’s Marylebone Cricket Club. These local tournaments provide the platform to select the PNG National Team.

As part of the development initiatives, SPB also supported the Coaching Clinic scheduled for 2nd March.

“This clinic will be conducted by the visiting team and being the oldest cricket club, the Marylebone Team will surely provide a lot of skills and techniques not only to our cricketers, but to officials as well,” said Mr Muller.

In receiving the cheque of K15,000 from SPB, PNG Cricket Board Chairman Mick Nades thanked SPB for their ongoing support to cricket saying that the SP 20/20 Cricket Match and the Coaching Clinic will benefit the players and coaches.
