First SP Brewery Papua New Guinea Appointment Overseas
Throughout its years of operation in PNG, SP Brewery (SPB) has regularly sent PNG Citizens overseas
for training and for their career development within the Asia Pacific Breweries Ltd (APB) Group. For the first time in the history of SP Brewery, a Papua New Guinean has been appointed to a key position in an overseas APB subsidiary.
Augustine Minimbi is the first Papua New Guinea staff of SP Brewery to be appointed to the key Finance Manager position within the APB Group since SPB was established in 1951. SPB is part of the APB Group which now has 23 breweries in 10 countries around the Asia Pacific and South Asia Region.
As Finance Manager in MCS-APB, the APB startup joint-venture in Mongolia, Mr Minimbi is part of
the team that will oversee the building of a brand-new brewery which will eventually produce Tiger Beer and other APB beer brands.
Hailing from the Western Highlands Province, Mr Minimbi is an accountant by profession and was the Chief Accountant of SPB before his overseas stints. Minimbi joined SP Brewery in December 1991 under the SPB Cadetship Program and
went on to pursue his Bachelor in Accounting Degree at the University of Southern Queensland and a Masters Degree in 2001, completing it in less than a year at the Victoria University of Technology in Melbourne.
He describes this step in his career as “a very exciting challenge and I would like to thank the APB and SPB management for believing in me and providing me this opportunity.”
“I would like to also thank my family, friends and colleagues who have supported me throughout my career. It feels good to be part of the small group of PNG expatriates in other parts of the world; therefore I will offer my best in my new role in Mongolia as such opportunities like this are rare,” said an elated Minimbi.”
SP Brewery General Manager Mr Nigel Yeo commended Mr Minimbi on his appointment saying: “We are very pleased with Gus’s appointment. He has done us proud, not only for SPB but also for Papua New Guinea as well.”
“Over the years, SPB has invested a lot in our employees in their career development and we will continue to develop our high potential staff in this manner” said Mr Yeo.
