INTERNATIONAL GRAND GOLD AWARD,
SOUTH PACIFIC EXPORT LAGER
“PAPUA New Guinea can once again celebrate South Pacific Export Lager’s international award, this time for a Grand Gold for quality at the Monde Selection, Vienna, Austria,” said SP Brewery General Manager Mr Stan Joyce.
In a celebration function held at SP Brewery’s Brewkettle, SPB General Manager Mr Stan Joyce announced that on 2 nd June 2008, SP Brewery was awarded a Grand Gold for its PNG-made South Pacific Export Lager
“The Grand Gold is awarded with three consecutive years of maintaining and producing top quality gold medal beer brands. From 2006 to 2007, gold medals were awarded to our premium beer brand thus qualifying it do this top award – Grand Gold on its third year,” said Mr Joyce. “And Papua New Guinean’s can be proud of that as we do at SP Brewery.”
Based in Belgium, the Monde Selection is the International Institute for Quality. It is one of the world’s most prestigious beer awards and only presents medals to producers for their efforts in preserving and maintaining the highest level of quality for their products.
“To win a grand gold at such international quality awards like Monde Selection truly states that our beers are amongst the world’s best beers,” said Mr Joyce. “PNG was among 23 other countries that were awarded High International Quality Awards under the Beer category. Export Lager now sits comfortably with other popular brands such as Sam Adams Light ( USA), Cobra Premium ( UK) and Boag’s Draught ( Australia) to name a few.”
The Brewery Chief also announced that: “Our SP Lager and Niugini Ice have also maintained their second year of scoring gold at the same awards, a remarkable achievement for not only SP Brewery but PNG as a whole.”

“SP Brewery will not be resting on our laurels. We will continue to put PNG on the global map by continuing to maintain our quality control measures as we have done in the past years.”
Mr Joyce reiterated that SP Brewery has invested K90m to increase its production capacity for the next three years as this upgrades are “necessary in order for us to meet the overwhelming demand for PNG’s internationally recognised beers and more over, this will ensure SP Brewery maintains its commitment of producing quality beers.”
