PROUD SP Sports Man of the Year, Menzie Yere says that the major contribution to his rugby league development and achievements has been through the team effort of the Agmark Gurias.

“Without the team players, I would not have been where I am and who I am today,” says Yere.

Prior to joining the Agmark Gurias in 2005, rugby league sensation Yere started his rugby league career in 2003 with the Mt Hagen. The following year Yere was part of the Highlands Zone Team of 2004. He played rugby union as well prior to rugby league.

At at age of 25, Yere has done his team and family proud with the following achievements and awards in rugby league which include:

2005 SP Lager Player of the Series and Golden Boot Winner for SP Cup;
2006 Runner up SP Lager Player of the Series and Golden Boot for SP Cup;
2007 SP Lager Man of the Series & Golden Booth Winner for SP Cup
2007 Member of the Telikom PNG Kumuls Team – Prime Minister’s XIII
2008 SP Sports Awards Sportsman of the Year

Winning the 2008 SP Sports Awards – Sportsman of the year made him even more prouder.

“I am really proud of this award. I did not expect to win, however, I had expected to be part of finalists,” said the proud Gurias five-eight.

As a quiet achiever in the past years, Yere is a role model to a lot of Papua New Guineans both rugby league supporters and PNG as a whole.

His advise to those who look up to him, especially the young youths is: “ In whatever sport you take part in, be serious about it. Commit and discipline yourself in that sport.”

Proud Agmark Guria’s Coach Michael Marum said that Yere has matured over the years since signing up with the team in 2005 not only as a player but as a resident of ENBP. “He's a committed and disciplined player on and off the field.”

There are many people who contributed to his achievement so far; his brothers Moses and David for continuous their encouragement and the sponsors throughout ENBP including Agmark Pacific and most of all the team mates of Agmark Gurias over the past three years.
