SP Brewery Chairman Sir Joseph Tauvasa KBE said the extension is part of the K91 million investment that was approved by the Board in 2008.

"The Company's three-year investment plan has resulted in the latest technology to be installed in both Breweries. The upgrade of the current operations and expansion of the brewery capabilities is world class and will provide us the extra capacity needed to meet market demand and growth. This structure is part of that investment."

Sir Joseph said the construction of the K8.6 million warehouse started in May 2010 and took a year to complete. As a result the warehouse is now the storage room for all raw materials from bottles, cans and packaging cartons.

Led by the counsel of the Beca project team, in putting the nuts and bolts on the warehouse was Hornibrooks NGI Ltd. Off course these achievements takes a concerted effort by various stakeholders and please allow me to thank them individually.

- Light box installation on the exterior of the warehouse - Graffiti Signs

Sir Joseph said that SP Brewery is not immune to negative comment from some sections of the community regarding the effects of alcohol. As a corporate citizen we take our social responsibility and our value our reputation, very seriously.

"We have made positive inroads in working with Government and various stakeholders as we now have representation on the Alcohol Taskforce Committee. This will enable use to work in partnership in bringing the message of responsible consumption of alcohol to the community."

He said responsible behavior from alcohol consumption must come from within; within the family, within the community, within the Provinces and within the Nation. Imposing liquor bans will not resolve the issues of alcohol in the long term.

As part of its social responsibility, SP Brewery has been the enormous and significant contribution to our country's Gross National Income through excise and other taxes. In addition to this, the Company has been for many decades, the forefront of sponsorship of major sporting events in Papua New Guinea. From the South Pacific Games to Rugby League to Golf and other national and international sports competitions, our aim is to ensure that we contribute towards developing a generation of sportsmen and women who, after their sporting careers, are able to give something back to the communities with pride, dignity and respect.

Sir Joseph thanked the customers for their loyalty. We value and appreciate the forbearance of our suppliers, transporters and service operators.

"SP Brewery remains committed to brewing and marketing quality beers brands for both its domestic and international markets. Our investments in this new Raw Materials warehouse as well as completed expansion works in our Lae Brewery will enable us to pursue our commercial interests as well as our social and corporate responsibilities."
