SP Cup Grand Final, a great success PNG’s premier rugby league competition, the SP Cup, ended on a very high note with SP Brewery staging one of the biggest grand finals in the history of the game.

It was an action-packed weekend where corporate sponsors, supporters and rugby league fans were treated to a weekend of football festivities starting with the grand final dinner attended by 300 plus guests, a motorcade followed by the grand final spectacle on 24th September.
Sparked by the presence of NRL stars Benji Marshall and Jamaal Lolesi, the appointment of international referee Bill Harragan who took charge of the game, and huge media buildup by SPB, the grand final match was witnessed by the biggest crowd to date at the Lloyd Robson Oval in Port Moresby.
In a tough and entertaining battle, minor premiers Mabey & Johnson Muruks took out the 2006 SP Cup and the K25,000 prize money edging out the Coca-Cola Lahanis 22-14. Coca Cola Lahanis took home the runners-up prize money of K15,000.
SPB was well commended by franchise owners, corporate sponsors and the PNG Rugby League for completing yet another successful season and more importantly a trouble-free one.
