Meet Elsie Konabe

“My aim was to learn as much as I can and remain with this multi-million kina company”

These were the thoughts shared by Elise Konabe who first joined SPB on the 6th of November 1984 as a Sales Admin. Ms Konabe was sharing her experience and the pathway that has led her to assuming the Purchasing Manager’s role.

“It’s been a long journey to get to where I am now, however, I didn’t face too many challenges along the way because I had the passion for the job and with the positive attitude has brought me to where I am today”, she said.

35years ago, an eager 18year old young adult turned up bright an early for her first ever job as a Sales Admin at SP Brewery Office here in Gordons, Port Moresby. “After a month into the job, I knew I wanted to work and remain with this reputable company. I believed that in order to succeed in my career here, I had to have the right mindset and have the willingness to learn as much as I can and I was very ecstatic to work”.

Ms Konabe was initially employed as a Sales Admin for two years, she was later moved to the SP Head Office located back then in Badili Port Moresby, where the IT Department was. Ms Konabe was with the IT Department for another two years before moving onto the Finance Department as a Credit Control Clerk, for a year. She was still located at the SP Head Office back then in Badili.

After spending five years with three different Departments, Ms Konabe moved into the Purchasing Department.  Ms Konabe started off in Purchasing as a Purchasing Clerk, and moved onto becoming a Local Buyer, later moving onto becoming a Purchasing Officer. From there she made her way up to becoming a Purchasing Supervisor. Whilst being a Supervisor, Ms Konabe was sent on a Short Term Assignment to work in SolBrew for 6months.

“I was the first female SPB employee to be ever sent on an STA in November 2013 to May 2014.  I was excited and very optimist to learn new things while I was away.  I was in Solomon Brewery as the Procurement and Warehousing Manager.”

“I started off on a lower rank, and I worked my way up to the top”

Upon her return to SPB Port Moresby, there was a restructure in the Purchasing Department and Ms Konabe was given the role of the Buyer, from that role, she was given the Role of the Opco Procurement BASE Lead and from that role, she was given the role of being the Opco Procurement Manager.
